Sulphonic Acid 96%, globally known as Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulphonic Acid (LABSA 96%) (CAS: 27176-87-0), is a high-purity anionic surfactant and the primary active ingredient used in the synthetic detergent industry. Produced through the continuoussulphonation of linear alkylbenzene (LAB) with sulphur trioxide (SO₃), it appears as a dark brown, highly viscous liquid with a characteristic acidic odor.

As an unneutralized acid precursor, LABSA 96% is designed to be neutralized with alkalis—most commonly Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH})—to produce Sodium Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonate (LAS), the foundational foaming and cleaning agent across consumer and industrial wash products.
